- Can I make my YZ85 street legal in Nevada?
I have a 2003 YZ85 and I want to make it street legal. I know I need the turn signals and mirrors and brake lights, but can I ride it on the highway? What is the lowest cc for a dirt bike to be ridden on the highway?
A Well from what I learned in the MSF course and researching a lot, is that CC depends a lot on the type of motorcycle you ride, a 1200 cruiser/chopper/tourer will perform as good as a 600cc sportbike. What I read is that 250cc is too low for highway and even when a 85cc will do great off the road, it will barely do for on road riding. For Street legal/safe you would need to change the tires, because knobby ones will not perform properly, will make too much noise and wont grip near any close as street tires, then you will have to add turn signals, stop and head lights, flashers, and if your state demands it, a less noisy muffler for your ride. The thing is that, even when your ride is great for offroad, but will perform poorly on the road. Answering your question: A) Yes you can make it street legal with aftermarket parts B) No, it is not safe for highway, and city roads C) Dirt bikes are not to be ridden on the highway, and the lowest recommended CC for highway will be around 500cc and 60hp to reach at least 60 Mph. I hope this helps, my recommendation is for you to get a Dual Sport motorcycle, they can perform good on trails and good on roads, theres plenty of them and they are awesome. Good luck!

- What is a Chopper/Bobber motorcycle?
I know what a chopper is but I often see Chopper/Bobbers for sale on ebay and craigslist and sites like that. What makes a bike a chopper/bobber? How does a bobber differ from a chopper or is it the same thing? I've heard different definitions. Is it that it has a solo seat? Is it that it has no rear shocks? Is it that all non-essential parts have been removed?
A The basic idea of a bobber/chopper is being minimalistic. One seat, no turn signals, sometimes no mirrors (or one mirror on the left side as required by some states), smaller or no fender in front and/or back of bike. No gauges or simple gauges. Many of these that I have seen are hardtails (meaning little or no rear suspension, air/oil cooled, footpegs only, etc. Chopper, much of the bike is modified, especially the frame and forks (forks may be raked out more than usual). A bobber is an unmodified frame. So pieces may be removed or added, but the frame is left largely untouched.
