Chopper Motorcycle Parts

- tested my motorcycle starter today but still lost?
i tested the starter today i connected both positive and nagative to battery of car and the negative to the solenoid and touched the body of the starter with the positve while the starter was still intact with the motor and i only hear it turn over around once or twice sometimes when i keep it touching the body of the starter it just keeps turning over. could it be the starter? the solenoid? or the battery? thank you also this is for a honda cb550 chopper motorcycle. okay switched it around like you said and still same problem. what could it be? yeah is that normal i never tetsted a starter before?

A Well lets start with YOU getting a service manual for the engine on the bike. Then you can READ how to properly test the electronics and what readings should be produced by each of the questioned components. Then get back to us if you are still lost.

New to motorcycles. I just got a new chopper and need a few things but I need more general information on what they are/what they do. I need a starter. My engine is a Revtech 88 and an ultima transmission. I need to know what a starter is, and what kind to get with my engine. I know they are separated by category (year they should go on a HD motor and if a sportster or not, or big block etc…) What they heck does mine compare to and what should I look for in a starter? Any ideas on what kind I should get (with a budget in mind?)

A any harley stater will work,you could do away with it and just use a kick start! spike makes the best high output starter for big inch motors.real choppers DONT have electric start!
